The Biodiversity Research Center (BRCAS) at Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan, invites applications for an Assistant Research Specialist position in artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning. The successful candidate will contribute AI expertise to ongoing research projects in biodiversity, ecology, and evolution. They will also help develop new AI-based research directions at the Center. The initial contract is 2 years. Contract renewal/promotion will be based on 4-year terms for each subsequent cycle after the initial 2-year period, upon performance evaluation. BRCAS is organized into four divisions: Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystems; Terrestrial Biodiversity and Ecosystems; Evolutionary Genetics and Genomics; and Microbial Diversity and Bioinformatics. This position offers opportunities to collaborate with research groups across all four divisions.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree and research experience in deep learning, including developing and applying computational methods to scientific problems. Those with a background in biology, particularly in ecology, evolution, or biodiversity, who have experience applying deep learning to biological research are especially encouraged to apply. Experience working with large or complex biological datasets, including ecological, evolutionary, genomic, imaging, acoustic, spatial, or other multimodal data, is advantageous.
