Major Research Achievements (2013-2017)
  • Providing the first ethnobotanical evidence for the “out of Taiwan” hypothesis of Austronesian expansion and migrations based on phylogeograpy of the Pacific paper mulberry.
  • Phylogenetics and taxonomy of Asian Begonia. Reconstructing phylogenetic relationship of Asian Begonia, proposing new hypothesis on the speciation and evolution of Asian limestone Begonia, elucidating biogeography of the Filipino Begonia sect. Baryandra, describing new species (9 species), new combination (1 species), and new distribution record (1 species) of Asian Begonia.
  • Phylogenetics and taxonomy of Gesneriaceae. Describing new specie (11 species) and new combination (10 specie) of Primulina, Petrocodon, and Oreocharis.
  • The first taxonomic revision of Berberis of Taiwan, including the description of 3 new species.
  • Applying new ecological concept for wetland plant conservation.

  • Origins of tropical and subtropical plant diversity using Asian Begonia as the model system.
  • Origins and speciation of Sino-Vietnamese limestone flora.
  • Origins of global mountain plant diversity using Berberis and Oreomyrrhis clade of Chaerophyllum (Apiaceae)
  • Paper mulberry as a model to track the history of Austronesian expansion and migrations.
  • Plant ecology of artificially constructed rice terraces.
